They rated us without telling us.
And they were right.
What we found when we discovered our listing on Good On You — and what we've done since.

Not long ago, while checking our website analytics, we noticed that a handful of visitors were arriving from a source we didn't immediately recognise: Good On You. We clicked through. And there we were — our name, our photos, our categories, and a full independent rating of our brand.

We didn't know. Nobody told us. And yet it had been sitting there for years, being read by people who care about what they buy and who made it.

Our overall rating is Good. When we saw it, we felt a mix of pride and unease. Pride, because it reflects what we try to do every day. Unease, because it also makes clear where we fall short.

"Good" is not "Great". And that gap matters to us.

WHAT THEY RECOGNISED

Handmade production. Limited runs to minimise textile waste. Organic cotton and Alpaca wool. Traceability across most of our supply chain. No leather, no fur, no down.

Every SONQO piece is made by hand by Peruvian artisans -  women who have spent their lives mastering a textile craft that no factory can replicate. Seeing that acknowledged by an independent platform, without anyone asking for it, carries a different kind of weight.

Behind every garment is a woman in Peru
who made it entirely with her hands.

WHAT WE STILL NEED TO WORK ON

The rating is equally clear about what's missing. So we will be too:

  • We have no formal, publicly documented policy on the use and elimination of hazardous chemicals in our process. We work with natural materials — but we haven't certified that officially.
  • There is no documented evidence that we ensure a living wage across our full supply chain. We do this within our team — but it's not written down in a way that's visible to external evaluators.

Writing this is a little uncomfortable. But we would rather sit with the discomfort of honesty than the ease of silence. Both of these are things we are actively working to document this year.

A sustainable brand isn't one without weaknesses.
It's one that doesn't hide them.

    WHY WE'RE SHARING THIS NOW

Because we believe anyone who lands on SONQO deserves to understand where we come from and where we're headed. We are not a perfect brand. We are a brand that tries, that measures, and that publishes what it finds even when it's not all green.

If you're here looking for something that makes sense - for you, for the people who make it, and for the planet - we'd love for you to take a look at what we do. Lights and shadows included.
